Szentendre, one of our baroque gems, is a cute little town just 20 km from Budapest.
This "artists village" is symbolized by churches, museums, galleries and cafés. Serbians fleeing from the Turkish occupation settled here in the 17th century in large numbers, Greeks and Slovaks also found shelter here, giving the city its Mediterranean character, which was preserved to this day. The architecture, cobblestone streets and the city's picturesque location have attracted many artists throughout the years. There are several small art museums and galleries, like microscopical wonders, or martipan figures.
