Day 1: Kathmandu’s Holy Places

Your first day is to see Kathmandu's main spiritual sites. These places are very important to both Hindus and Buddhists.

Morning (8:00 AM - 11:00 AM): Swayambhunath Stupa (The Monkey Temple)

Start your day by climbing 365 steps to Swayambhunath. It sits on a hill. You can see the whole valley from here. The climb can be tiring but the reward is great. The Buddha's all-seeing eyes look out from the stupa's gold top. These eyes are painted on all four sides. Many prayer flags hang around the stupa. The monkeys living there are fun to watch. They are often seen playing or looking for food. It mixes Buddhist and Hindu art. You will see both types of symbols. It offers great views of the city below.

Afternoon (12:00 PM - 2:30 PM): Pashupatinath Temple

Next, go to the Bagmati River. Visit Pashupatinath. This is Nepal's most holy Hindu temple. The Bagmati River is sacred to Hindus. Many people come here to worship. People who are not Hindu cannot go inside the main temple. But you can watch the open-air cremation rites from the east side of the river. This is a very old tradition. It is a powerful and deep cultural event. It shows a lot about the Hindu cycle of life and death. The air might be smoky. You will see families saying goodbye to loved ones.

Late Afternoon (3:00 PM - 5:00 PM): Boudhanath Stupa

Finish your spiritual tour at Boudhanath. This is one of the biggest stupas in the world. The atmosphere here is calm and very Tibetan. Many Tibetan people live in this area. Join the pilgrims as they walk around the huge circle. They walk in a clockwise direction. They spin prayer wheels and say holy words. The sound of their chants fills the air. The stupa is very large and white. It has a golden spire. The cafes on nearby rooftops offer great tea. You can sit and enjoy the views of the stupa. It is a peaceful end to your day.

Evening: Go to Thamel. This is a lively tourist area. It is full of shops, bars, and restaurants. Have dinner there. You will find many places to eat. They serve Nepali food. You can try momo, a type of dumpling. They also serve food from other countries, like Italian or Chinese. The streets are busy and bright at night. Morning to Afternoon (10:00 AM - 4:00 PM): Bhaktapur Durbar Square & City Walk

Bhaktapur is a great place to walk. Cars are not allowed in the old city center. Spend your day on its car-free streets. The main Durbar Square has the amazing 55-Window Palace. This palace has many detailed windows. It also has the grand Golden Gate. This gate is very ornate and beautiful. You will see many pagoda temples. These temples have many roofs, one on top of the other. Do not miss the five-story Nyatapola Temple. It is the tallest pagoda in Nepal. It stands tall and strong. It is in Taumadhi Square nearby.

You must visit Pottery Square. This is a working square. You can watch artists make clay pots. They use old ways, spinning wheels by hand. The pots dry in the sun. You can even try making a pot yourself. This is a fun and hands-on experience.

Food Tip: You must try Juju Dhau (the "King Curd") in Bhaktapur. This sweet, creamy yogurt comes in a clay pot. It is a local favorite and a special treat. It is thicker and richer than regular yogurt. Many shops sell it fresh.

Day 3: Patan, The City of Fine Arts

Your last day is in Patan (also called Lalitpur). It is known for its many arts and crafts. Patan has a calmer feel than Kathmandu.

Morning (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM): Patan Durbar Square

Patan's Durbar Square might be the most beautiful in the valley. It is a small area full of wonderful buildings. You can walk around easily. Main sights include the stone-carved Krishna Mandir. This temple is made of stone and has amazing details. See the gold Hiranya Varna Mahavihar (The Golden Temple). This temple shines with gold. Also, visit the great Patan Museum. The museum is a must-see. It is in a fixed-up palace. It has a world-class collection of Nepali art. You will see old statues, paintings, and metalwork.

Afternoon (1:00 PM onwards): Seeing Hidden Courtyards

After lunch, go past the main square. Walk into the narrow back streets. Patan is famous for its hidden bahals (courtyards). These are calm, quiet places and community centers.
