General presentation The Moroccan Sahara consists of a territory of 266,000 km2 for a population estimated at 500,000 inhabitants. Stretching from North-West Africa, bordered by the Moroccan province of Tarfaya to the North, Algeria to the North-East and Mauritania to the East and South, while its West coast runs along 1,200 km the Atlantic, it has a border with Algeria over 42 km, Mauritania over 1,561 km and Morocco over 443 km. The areas controlled by Morocco and the Polisario Front are separated by a 2,000 km long wall of sand, built by the Moroccans.
