Nairobi City Nature Gems
A tour of the city's major nature escapes. These are the National Park and Nature walk, Karura forest, Ngong Road/Karen forest, Ngong hills and Oloolua Forest, or the Nairobi Arboretum. There are also other privately owned nature attractions. These include The Nairobi Giraffe Centre, Sheldrick's Elephant Sanctuary and Stedmark's Zoo. Each of these places have their own unique aura. Some, like the Giraffe Centre are famous and almost instantly recognizable, while others like the Oloolua Forest are less famous but offer a distinctively captivating charm. The whole idea of paying a visit to these sites is for the enjoyment of what nature has to offer within a stonethrow from the city. Especially during the wet(ish) season. We can arrange for a picnic at these places as most allow it. Conveniently, there are also restaurants within these establishments or nearby. There is no need for any specialised equipment for walking or photography, although professional photography would have its caveats in some places. All these places have entry charges. Unless otherwise advised, the flora and fauna are indegenous to the area. The best way to enjoy these attractions, in my opinion would be to combine one flora attraction with one fauna attraction, with a meal in between. In fact, save for the arboretum and Karura forest, the rest of the locations are within minutes of each other.
