Everest Basecamp trek
The Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek is one of Nepal's most iconic treks. A 12-day itinerary starting and ending in Kathmandu (KTM) typically looks like this:
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Arrive in Kathmandu, transfer to hotel.
Trek briefing and preparation.
Day 2: Fly to Lukla (2,800m) and trek to Phakding (2,610m)
Scenic 30-40 min flight to Lukla.
3-4 hrs trek to Phakding.
Day 3: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)
Cross suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River.
6-7 hrs trek.
Day 4: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar
Short hikes to nearby viewpoints or villages like Khumjung.
Day 5: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,860m)
Visit Tengboche Monastery, one of the most famous in the Khumbu region.
5-6 hrs trek.
Day 6: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4,410m)
Pass through Pangboche village.
5-6 hrs trek.
Day 7: Acclimatization Day in Dingboche
Optional hikes to Nangkartshang Peak or nearby ridges.
Day 8: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (4,910m)
Pass through Thukla Pass and memorials.
5-6 hrs trek.
Day 9: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,364m) via Gorakshep (5,180m)
Morning trek to Gorakshep, drop bags.
Continue to EBC and return to Gorakshep.
7-8 hrs total.
Day 10: Hike to Kala Patthar (5,545m) and trek to Pheriche (4,240m)
Early morning hike for sunrise views of Everest.
Descend to Pheriche.
6-7 hrs trek.
Day 11: Trek back to Lukla
Long descent via Namche Bazaar.
8-9 hrs trek.
Day 12: Fly back to Kathmandu
Enjoy the last scenic flight back to Kathmandu.
Key Notes:
Best time to trek: Spring (March-May) and Autumn (Sept-Nov).
Fitness level: Moderate to high; prior preparation recommended.
Permits needed: Sagarmatha National Park Permit and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit.
Flight caution: Lukla flights can be delayed or canceled due to weather.
