Day 01 :

Marrakech → High Atlas → Aït Ben Haddou → Skoura Oasis → Dades Valley:

Your adventure begins with an 08:00 AM pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. Leaving the city behind, you climb into the High Atlas Mountains, following the scenic road toward Tizi n’Tichka Pass. On a private tour, the drive doesn’t feel like “just transfer time”—it’s part of the experience. Your driver can stop for viewpoints, short breaks, and photos whenever you like, especially near panoramic valleys and traditional villages along the route.

By late morning, you reach Aït Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most famous fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you’ll have time to explore the winding lanes, walk up toward the old granary, and learn why this ksar played such an important role on historic caravan routes—and why it’s still one of the country’s most filmed locations. If you’d like, we can arrange a licensed local guide for richer context and the best viewpoints.

After lunch (usually near Aït Ben Haddou or in Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the desert), the landscape shifts again as you pass through the Skoura Oasis—a sea of palm groves dotted with earth-built kasbahs. Many guests enjoy a short stop for photos and a look at the region’s traditional architecture, including the story behind Kasbah Amridil (visit timing depends on the day’s pace).

Later in the afternoon, you continue toward the Dades Valley, a beautiful region of red rock formations, dramatic cliffs, and distinctive shapes like the famous “Monkey Fingers”. You arrive in time to settle into your hotel, relax, and enjoy dinner—ready for the Sahara the next day.

Day 02 :

Dades → Tinghir & Todra Gorge → Rissani → Merzouga → Erg Chebbi

After breakfast, your private tour continues east through a changing landscape of valleys, small towns, and oasis farmland. You’ll reach Tinghir and then the spectacular Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive canyon walks. Towering limestone walls rise high above the riverbed, and the air here often feels cooler and refreshing. You’ll have time to stroll through the gorge, take photos from the best angles, and enjoy a relaxed break—without the pressure of a group schedule.

From Todra, you continue toward the desert through Rissani, an old caravan hub with a strong traditional character. Depending on timing (and market days), you may stop to see local life and the atmosphere of a real desert trading town—an authentic contrast to the more touristy stops.

By late afternoon, you arrive in Merzouga, where the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi begin to appear on the horizon. This is the moment most travelers dream of: the desert “sand sea” finally comes into view. You’ll then switch to a camel trek at sunset—a calm ride into the dunes with plenty of time for photos in the best light. Prefer not to ride camels? On a private tour, it’s easy to arrange a 4×4 transfer to the camp instead.

In the evening, you arrive at your luxury ensuite Sahara camp. Expect a private tent with comfortable bedding, a proper bathroom, and a setting that balances authenticity with real comfort. Before dinner, you can try sandboarding, climb a nearby dune for panoramic views, or simply slow down and enjoy the silence of the desert. After a traditional Moroccan dinner, many nights include Berber music around the fire and unforgettable stargazing—then you sleep under the calm of the Sahara.

Day 03 :

Erg Chebbi Sunrise → Draa Valley → Ouarzazate → Marrakech

You’ll wake early for one of the most beautiful moments of the tour: sunrise over Erg Chebbi. If you’d like, take a short walk to the top of a nearby dune and watch the colors shift across the sand—quiet, peaceful, and worth the early start. After breakfast at camp, you say goodbye to your hosts and begin the return journey west.

Leaving Merzouga behind, the route gradually transitions from dunes to open desert plains and then into greener, palm-lined corridors. You’ll travel through the Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s longest river oases, known for its palm groves, kasbah silhouettes, and fortified villages. This part of the day gives you a different perspective on “the desert”—not only sand dunes, but also oasis life shaped by water, agriculture, and ancient trade routes.

Around Ouarzazate, you’ll stop for lunch and, if you wish, a short visit to Kasbah Taourirt or a quick look near the film studios area (time permitting and based on your priorities). Then it’s back across the Atlas toward Marrakech with regular breaks for coffee, viewpoints, and stretching your legs.

By early evening, you’re dropped off at your Marrakech accommodation—ending your private 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour with a deep sense of Morocco’s landscapes, culture, and the unforgettable Sahara night.
