Pisa and Lucca
Lucca is a little gem with one of the most powerful walls that made Lucca safe and
independent since the Unification of Italy in 1861. We can walk on the walls for a little while
looking at the town from above. Elegant town with a long history of Merchants leading the
town economy for centuries, specialised in silk, cotton an
leather since the 12th hundred. It is one of the symbol that characterises the town with
elegance still today with the many tailoring shops.
Town of music, with one of the most important music conservatory schools and quite a few
composers, including Giacomo Puccini.
After our visit in Lucca, we'll see an interesting historic seafarer town where we still see the
Past glories; Pisa has been a naval base for the Etruscans, the Romans and in the ninth
century the Pisan fleet embarked on its triumphant series of victories at the sea over the
Moorish pirates and became one of the four Italian republic towns at the Mediterranean
sea. As a result of the travels to the Arab Countries, the influence with the byzantine and
Arab culture made this beautiful square called Pisan-Romanicdue to the Orient style; We’ll
visit Piazza dei Miracoli, with the XII hundred Baptistry, the Cathedral and the Leaning
Tower. We continue then to Piazza Dei Cavalieri, the old government Palace from the twelve
hundred, now a very important Dept. of the University of Pisa, where Leonardo Fibonacci
organised groups to study Mathematics in the eleven hundred. You'll enjoy a stroll in the
city centre in this lovely town away from the tourist tracks, among old buildings home
of Galileo Galilei.
