Tour 2: Old Guangzhou - Culture & Heritage Walk in Liwan District
Step back in time and explore the soul of old Guangzhou in the historic Liwan District, the cradle of Lingnan culture. I will take you on a journey through centuries of history.
- We'll start at the magnificent Chen Clan Academy, a masterpiece of traditional Cantonese architecture. Admire the intricate wood carvings, stone sculptures, and colorful ceramic decorations that depict ancient stories and folklore, offering a deep dive into local artistry.
- Next, we’ll wander through the charming Yongqing Fang neighborhood, a revitalized area of traditional alleyways and courtyard homes. Here, you’ll discover boutique shops, cozy cafes, and street art that blends old and new. You can also take a visit to Bruce Lee's Ancestral Home if you're a fan of him. What's more, if we're lucky enough, we may also get to watch a Cantonese Opera in the Cantonese Opera Museum!
- The tour then moves to Shamian Island, a former foreign concession that retains its colonial-era charm with tree-lined streets, European-style villas, and historic churches. You’ll feel the unique atmosphere of this once-international trade port.
